Neighborhood Design Standards

Consistency in the built environment begins at the policy level. Working within the City of Mansfield’s Planning & Development department, this project involved the drafting and refinement of § 155.057, the Neighborhood Design Standards. These standards serve as the "operating system" for future residential development, ensuring that private growth contributes to a high-quality public realm.

  • Standard Development: Translated "walkable neighborhood" principles into enforceable development code, focusing on building placement and pedestrian-centric streetscapes.

  • Public Process: Prepared and delivered technical presentations to the Planning & Zoning Commission, bridging the gap between legislative intent and physical design.

  • Implementation Review: Applied the new standards to current plat and SUP (Special Use Permit) reviews to ensure immediate alignment with the city's future land-use goals.
